Medallion with Pieced Blocks

I wanted to lay out some log cabins around my basket medallion but Red Wings was taking all the floor space.  So laid the medallion on top of Red Wings.  Hmmm.  Now there's an idea for some future medallion quilt.  Not these blocks but some blocks that fit and work with some center medallion.

Red Wings is finished and the medallion already has another border.  I just thought this might be an interesting idea.

  1. Wow--I really like the effect of your medallion with the Red Wing blocks! I look forward to see what border you ended up using.

    1. For this particular medallion I've already added little log cabin blocks and will do a star border next, but seeing these two together is inspiration to consider another medallion quilt but perhaps with regular blocks for one of the borders. I think I may be in over my head this month with two projects but I'll keep this in mind for some future quilt.

    1. Probably not the very next quilt, Teresa, but maybe an upcoming quilt.

  3. Funny how the colors are perfect together! Did you make Medallions from your Red Wing scraps?

    1. Hi, Jennie. The blue border in the medallion quilt was made from some of the scraps of the blue sashing in Red Wings, so it's no wonder they "go together."

  4. OH my! Very nice! I love how you echoed both the stars form the blue border and the pinks and creams from the center block. Looking really good!

    1. Thanks, Pam. They are not destined to become one quilt but they are inspiration for a future possible quilt. I just like the surprise of seeing them together.

  5. I do like those stars twinkling in the log cabin border. Maybe you could just appliqué the medallion on to Red Wings? 😉 Only joking!
