Just in the Nick of Time - November's OMG Finish

As I was debating how to organize my afternoon  I decided to see when the One Monthly Goal posts for November were due.  I had several half-blocks on the edges to finish quilting.  Good thing I looked because tonight's the deadline.

I quilted this afternoon so I could finish and meet my November monthly goal and link to the November finish link-up at Elm Street Quilts.

Regarding deadlines:  I often imagine things will take less time than they actually do.  Other times I imagine I have (or will have) more time than I really do to finish.  Either way I find myself racing to meet the deadline.  The only times it's a problem are when I haven't made a decision about what I'm working on and/or I've started way too late.  I try to avoid these situations but they sometimes creep up on me (like today).  November's been a busy month.

I debated how to quilt those plain squares in this quilt.  I tried the stitching pattern on the left but decided against it.  I went with the easier (and less time-consuming) lines on the right.  (But who knows, I may go back and add a triangle within those triangles.)

Next I'll cut and sew binding, but I probably won't get that done this week.

I'm linking this post to One Monthly Goal - November Finish Link Up at Elm Street Quilts. Thanks for hosting, Patty.

  1. I smiled when I read your statement that you sometimes imagine things will take less time than they actually do. I ALWAYS imagine that!! : ) And I never seem to get the time that I think I will for quilting. Haven't done any for a couple of weeks now.
    Congrats on getting this quilted!!

    1. Hi, Janet. What is it that things take longer than we think they will? A few years ago sister in R.S. commented it would only take her 10 minutes to make something (I'm not sure what but it was a smallish Christmas gift) and and of us who sewed could do the same thing. I didn't say anything but I wondered if her 10 minutes were longer than mine. I knew that whatever it was would take me at least 10 minutes to choose fabric!

I'm learning to plan more time for everything but even so, I'm sometimes late.

    1. Thank you, Dawn. You are so very generous to speak of the photo of my hand stitches as "inspiring." Encouraging words like that cause me to keep working at it with the hope of improving.

  3. I think this is such a pretty piece and thanks for showing your stitching. Interesting to me as I am in the midst of some intense hand quilting which I wonder how I got myself into! I think it is some sort of rule that stitching things take longer than we imagine they will. Probably safe to just double any time you think up.

    1. Hi, Jocelyn. Thanks for that great advice to double the time I think things will take. I keep trying to allow myself more time but I'll give doubling the time a try and see how that works.

Thanks, too, for your kind words about this little quilt.
