Goslings on Easy Street

Hey, my goslings can fly!  This is the first time I've made flying geese.  While stitching them I wasn't sure they'd fly but, sure enough, they do!

Don't you love their little "feet" sticking out on the sides at the bottom of each block?  I know I'll have to clip them off but I think they are just too cute.  With only 14 geese made so far, I have a long way to go.

Life has been a little challenging.  I'm still recovering from foot surgery and limping along, walking on my left heel and my right foot.  It puts one out of kilter, so to speak.  I wonder that my joints aren't getting out of alignment!  Not to mention that it makes one so tired.  Add to that the fact that I'm working 3 days a week at a little candy shop.   I'm pushing myself to work on these blocks for a little while each night so I won't be quite so far behind.  I can spend more time on them on Friday and Saturday.  I will begin to catch up then.

  1. Oh, Nancy - your goslings are darling! Are you using the rulers Bonnie uses or are you using a different method? I have only made 4. I hadn't made flying geese either and I wanted to try them out and see if I needed to press the seams open. I am just now getting my 4 patches made so don't feel behind because I am behind YOU. :)
Why did you have foot surgery? They probably tell you to rest it and THAT is harder done than said! Hope you heal quickly!

    1. Thanks, Ranch Wife. The "wings" on the goslings are a little creamier than in the photo. Yes, I'm using the rulers Bonnie suggested. I bought them a year or so ago, use one of them but not the other, so I'm pleased for an opportunity to use them. They are really easy and there's no waste. I press the seams open but Bonnie recommended doing it very carefully so as not to pull the block out of alignment. With the seams being on the bias it's easy to do.

I'm still working on my 4-patches! I have just 40 of them made, and only the 12 geese. Bonnie recommended that we do as much as we can each week, then move on to the next step. I guess that's what I'm going....

About the foot surgery - the joint in my big toe was way out of alignment plus I had arthritis and bone fragments around the joint. The doctor cleaned up the joint and put two pins in to keep it in place (at least till it heals and only if I don't break them). He also realigned and put a pin in the joint in my little toe because it was sticking out. Before surgery he said 6 weeks recovery, after surgery he moved it to 8 weeks. I've been trying to be a good patient by mostly keeping my foot elevated but it's getting harder and harder. I'm hoping when I go back in a week and a half that he'll let me walk on the foot again. I'm ready!

Thanks for visiting and leaving a comment, Ranch Wife.

  3. I love the fabric your chose. I've always liked botanicals or similar and that blue and red go so well together! Good luck on your Doc visit. cheers, Claire W.

    1. Thanks, Claire. I've never made a quilt choosing all the colors in advance. I hope the colors and pattern all work well together!

  4. Thank you so much for blogging about the mystery quilt. Your post caused me check it out and decide to get involved and I am SO enjoying it! When I first blogged about being involved I inadvertently gave credit to a different blogger. She quickly pointed out my error and I wrote a correction. So sorry for the mix up. My only excuse is that I must have too many blogs to read and too little mind to remember!

    1. Nina, you are welcome. I'm happy to hear that you're enjoying the mystery quilt. I am but I'm beginning to feel like a power cutter and stitcher. I've never sewn so much so quickly before in my life! Not to worry about giving credit elsewhere. I would never have known the difference if you hadn't said something.
