Parsonsfield Update for One Monthly Goal

The colors in this Parsonsfield quiltlet are so subtle that it's hard to photograph.  (I wonder how professional photographers can take such beautiful photographs of homes that are all whites and creams.  Oh, I know!  They're professionals with lots of experience.)

This photo was taken with my phone camera and without a flash.

My One Monthly Goal for May was to choose a backing and get this layered and basted.  I did that and I'm happy to say that the quilting is almost finished.  I'm echo quilting the seams using size 8 perle cotton so it's been easy and quick to quilt.  Of course, when taking big stitches, mine are absolutely not even.  I work at it but haven't succeeded.  On a little quilt like this that will probably one day lay on the kitchen table between meals, I don't think perfectly even stitches matter that much.

I'm linking this post to May One Monthly Goal Finish Link Up at Stories from the Sewing Room.  Thank you for hosting, Anne-Marie.

  1. Your Parsonsfield quilt will be finished in no time! I don't worry much about getting perfectly even stitches anymore, especially with a quilt that will duty on a table or bench and be washed occasionally. It seems like when we're not holding the quilt ten inches from our eyes, those uneven stitches just seem to disappear!

    1. I hope you're right, Pat.  I began it because I thought it would be a quick finish.  I'm also sewing a binding on so it's not getting all of my attention.  I know, most people don't look at stitches, and we don't have guests who are interested often enough to make a difference.  It's just for me (unless some little girl wants it for a doll quilt.)

    1. Thank you and you're welcome for the links, Jocelyn. I agree, it's very satisfying to accomplish a goal. I was thinking about it the other day and seems I do better when I have to accountable in some way. (I did so much better with exercises at home when I was meeting with a physical therapist several times a week because I knew she would ask how it was going at home.)

    1. Thank you, Lizzy. I hemmed and hawed, indecisive as usual about how to sew so many small pieces together for this nearly-24" quilt. I realized that the front was so busy that the back didn't need to be also. I finally picked up the pieces and used a single piece of fabric. It was left over from the sashing on Cheddarback. It's an off-white shirting print.

    1. Thank you, Anne-Marie. I always forget that the borders are almost as big as the center when it comes to quilting them. It should be done soon.
Thanks so much for hosting One Monthly Goal twice a month. I appreciate it. It keeps me focused!
