RSC - Orange Is the Clown of the Color World

As I was arranging orange squares in preparation for sewing them together for this week's RSC blocks, the thought came to me that orange must be the clown of the color world, joking around, teasing, having fun.  And I thought, orange can't possibly take itself seriously.  Can it?

I like orange in very small doses and prefer the ones that lean toward red, or coral.  I found a few fun fabrics with orange (and chose not to use the yellow-ish oranges).

orange blocks for RSC 2025

I don't think I'll need many orange blocks for the quilt I'm planning, which you can see here.  Maybe another one or two....

I'm linking this post to ScrapHappy Saturday Orange at SoScrappy.  Thanks for hosting, Angela.  Visit the link to see the blocks that other participants are making with orange.

Health Note.
It's been a really slow week.  The nurse practitioner doubled the dose of medication I'm taking to try to get rid of this headache.  I guess that was always the plan---to start low and increase.  It hasn't done anything for the headache but it makes me so extremely tired.  I can hardly make myself move.  You'd think 12 hours of sleep in a night would do it but I still have to push myself to get up in the morning and do things, and four hours later I'm ready for a nap after having done the bare minimum (shower, dress, brush my teeth, breakfast, etc.).  Several reliable websites agreed that the tiredness should go away as I adapt to the medication.  I'm grateful I don't have a full-time job away from home because if I did, I'd surely get fired.

Even with being tired, I've partially sewn another simple summer dress, stitched a few feet of binding on Everyday Patchwork, quilted Parsonsfield, did a load of laundry, and nearly no house cleaning.  Cleaning requires consolidated energy for longer than five or ten minutes; the other activities I can sit and do.  One of these days I hope things will get back to the old normal, or at least to a new normal that doesn't include a headache and extreme tiredness.  Isn't life interesting?!

I hope you have a good weekend.

  1. I'm so sorry to read about your health issues, it must be so debilitating for you. So pleased you could sit and stitch your blocks, it must be a good feeling to get them done.

    1. Thank you, Jenny.  Yes, often debilitating.  When the headache gets too bad, I just go to bed.  I shouldn't be complaining.  I think others probably have much bigger challenges.
It's a great satisfaction to finish anything these days!

  2. Oh I LOVE orange, I guess it is my favorite color--not to wear, just to, well, ''be''. Clown is such a perfect description, too.
I'm so sorry for your health issues, fighting thru Rx side effects can be so hard. The feelings you describe are how I feel for the two weeks after an IV infusion. Yes I know it will pass, but I lose at least two weeks out of every 8 weeks---since 2009. When I complained about side effects [there's others], I was told, ''live w them or die, your choice''.
I was also recently Rxed a medication for my extreme anxiety/ panic attacks post Covid, and while it sort of works okay in small doses, the ''can't wake up, the can't get out of bed, the okay I showered now back to bed'' syndrome is worse than most of the panic attacks. Not that any of the doctors care. Hang in there tho. If in the end--you've come so far--it works, it will be worthwhile.

    love

    1. I knew you loved cheddar, Lizzy, but I didn't remember that you love all oranges.
Thank you for commiserating with my health situation. (I'm sure I shouldn't and that others have it much worse than I do.) I don't know how you do it for two weeks out of eight! You must dread those two weeks. (I know I would.) Doctors can be so unsympathetic and blunt! And I'm sorry the medication for anxiety/panic attacks is worse than the attacks themselves.

  3. So sorry that the medication has not helped with your headaches. You might want to get an appointment with a specialist to get a second opinion on the diagnosis and possible alternative treatments. Hoping you get some relief soon.

    1. Thank you, Pat.  The neurologist and the nurse practitioner tell me -- have told me from the beginning -- that none of these medications that are available work quickly.  All take several months or more to become fully effective.  I could switch medications again but I thought I should at least give this one a while to see if it works.  I think it's been less than a month at this point.  (Of course, the headache's been around a lot longer.  With a name like New Daily Persistent Headache, I guess I couldn't expect less.)

  4. I'm so sorry you are dealing with not only the headaches but side effects from the medication. It has been funny to see how many of us have been saying that orange is a color they don't have much of. Same with me!

    1. Thank you, Sara. I continue to hope the medication eventually works.
I didn't think I had much orange, either, so I was surprised at how much I actually have. Where did it come from, I wonder?!

  5. As I was pulling oranges for my RSC projects I noted the array of tones -- on the red side, on the yellow side, on the brown-gold side. Good to know that you're able to push through and get some things accomplished.

    1. Yes, the orange range is pretty broad, Nann. I think some look better together than others.
What will you do for orange for the rest of the month or are finished with orange for now?

  6. I love what you said about orange being the clown of the color world. It just looks at you straight in the eye with an unapologetic grin on it's face. It makes me smile just thinking about it. We had a pumpkin block exchange in my quilt group and I don't quite know what to do with all that orange. I put all the blocks in a box. . . I'll deal with them when orange is in season. I sure hope you start feeing better.

    1. Thank you, Robin. I hope I feel better, soon.
The post title is an oops. I typed in the idea for the title, wrote the post, then hit publish before realizing I really wanted to say, "I think orange is the clown of the color world."  The way it is now sounds very decisive and it's really only my opinion.  But I'm glad you like the though.
I remember your pumpkin block exchange.  That will be fun to work on come September and October.  You're probably already envisioning possibilities....
