Quilter's Riddle?

Q:  When is a straight line not a straight line?

A:  When I sew it!  Yes, I have a hard time keeping long, straight seams straight, especially at the beginning and end.  Not to worry, though:  I have plenty of strips to practice with and, if all else fails, I have an acrylic square and a rotary cutter.

This is how I think the quilt may look -- unless I decide to change something about it, maybe the color or size of the corner squares or the color range of the strings themselves.  The strings are sewn into blocks but the blocks are not cut to size or sewn together.

And this is how the blocks look without the corner squares.  I think the corner squares help unify the quilt.

I'm linking this post to WOW at Esther's Blog and WiP Wednesday at Freshly Pieced.  Thank you, ladies.

Happy quilting to you!

  2. I find that those plaids are hard to keep straight, but I also think they add so much character to a scrap quilt. I am working on a very similar quilt and I really like your addition of the cornerstones. I always add those to my rail fence quilts and I think they add a wonderful dimension. I may have to add them to my current project...thank you. I'm looking forward to seeing your finished quilt...its going to be lovely!

  3. I like the cornerstones, too. They sort of give your eye a chance to rest between the stripes. This colder weather is good for sewing projects, isn't it?

  4. Nancy the quilt is just so pretty -- I don't think it matters if the lines aren't straight as long as your blocks are square for sewing them together ;) I like the cornerstones -- they add another dimension. I could see me appliqueing a chubby flower on there too! Look forward to seeing it completed. Take care, Karen
