I added the madder triangles to the "little bird" triangles I posted yesterday. They are 3 1/2" square. I wonder how they'll be placed in the quilt.
These blocks are also for Part 3 in Lori's Quilters Madder quilt-along. Like the ones above, they are 3 1/2" square. They make me think of butterflies.
After I've made a bunch of the same block I always enjoy trying different layouts. I can imagine the blocks below larger and scrappy.
And these remind me of a woven wall sculpture I made years and years ago. They almost look like little trees.
Did I ever mention how much I love my Easy Angle ruler? It has made cutting triangles a breeze. No more 5/8" and 7/8" squares for me.
Whenever a quilt pattern calls for half-square triangles made from a 2 3/8" square, I know I can cut a strip 2" wide and use the Easy Angle. Love, love, love it. I'm not advertising for the company because if I were I might get paid.
I'm linking this post to Linky Tuesday at Freemotion by the River.

I love the colors of your triangle blocks and enjoyed seeing all the ways you arranged them! I saw you talking about dying fabric in a previous post. Did you dye the fabric?
ReplyDeleteHi, Sheri. Thank you. It was fun laying them out to play.
DeleteI didn't dye the fabric I used for these blocks. I haven't done any natural dying for many, many years. I notice that it's very popular once again. Do you dye?
I love seeing all the different layouts and totally different looks of the results. Will have to check out the ruler - looks slick!
ReplyDeleteHi, Karen. For me part of the fun of quilt blocks is playing with arrangements. I don't usually do it if I have a specific end result in mind, but with a mystery quilt I'm when I'm wondering what the final layout will be and try different arrangements.
DeleteI think there are several tutorials on line for using the Easy Angle. I saw it recommended and bought it but when I first tried it it was a little confusing.
Thanks for visiting and leaving a comment.
Fun to play with the units on a mystery. Your blocks look great!
ReplyDeleteI love to use the Easy Angle ruler, too. That is what I am using on my blocks for Lori's SAL.
Thanks, Janet.
DeleteSuch cute units!!! You have quite an imagination with arrangements. I love doing mystery quilts.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Nancy. I'm not a huge fan of mystery quilts because I never know if I'll like them or not when finished, but I thought this one was such a small investment of time and fabrics that I probably couldn't go wrong.
DeleteLookin' GOOD!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Gayle.
DeleteLove the colours and versatility of the triangles...so many different and all pleasing arrangements.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Jocelyn. I think it's always fun to play with quilt blocks.
DeleteAnd your experiments look great, too! I know so many people who love this ruler. I have one, two sizes, in fact, and I almost never use it. Isn't that odd?
ReplyDeleteThanks, Susan. I don't think it's odd that you don't use the rulers. Sometimes tools just don't do it for us so we rarely use them. Other times we like the way we first learned better than the way another tool works.
DeleteYour units look great! I really like that economy stylesque setting you came up with! Can't wait to see your Quilters Madder completed!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Kevin. I like that economy-like arrangement, too. I finally finished sewing the blocks together today but have to press and take photos. I'll post it soon.
DeleteSo fun to see the different ways one quilt block can be used!
ReplyDeleteHi, Lori. I always think it's fun to play with blocks while I'm waiting for the final layout. It gives me ideas for more quilts.
DeleteWhat a sweet quilt pattern this is, Lori. Thanks so much for creating and hosting this quilt-along. My daughter's been in town and I haven't had much time to sew but I finally finished sewing the blocks together today. I'll press and take photos tomorrow and the post my finished quilt. (Though I'm still considering a border, but don't know yet....)
