Quilts on a Fence

When a nearly-local quilt shop has a sale every fall the employees line the fence along their shady driveway with sample quilts in all sizes, some finished, some flimsies, and some in progress between the two.

You can look at the photos more closely by clicking on them.  They'll open in this screen and give you the opportunity to click again to enlarge.  When you're finished looking, click the back arrow at the top of your browser to return to this screen.  (Or you can right click on any photo and open in a new window where, again, you can click to enlarge.)

I didn't measure any of the quilts but you might be able to guess size by the width of the fence boards behind the quilts though I didn't measure those boards, either.  I suppose they were about 8" wide.

So many quilts!

  1. What a fun display! And many of them for sale, too. I enlarged a lot of the photos of the minis. : )

    1. It is fun to see them -- so many! -- lining the fence, Janet. These were their sample quilts and they were selling them half-price. I've only gone to the sale two years now but I don't remember seeing any of the same quilts as last year so I assume they all get sold. There were many minis. Did you find any you particularly liked?

    1. It's fun to see them on the fence, Debbie, but hard to photograph (shade, wind, etc.) And I don't know what they do if it rains. But then, it hasn't rained the past two years that I've gone....

  3. What a fun idea! I hope they had a good turn out and that many of the quilts found new homes. There are some lovely quilts that sparked inspiration on this end. Thank you for sharing them...it was nice to begin the day with a virtual quilt show.

    1. Hi, Karin. I try to get to the tent sale early in the day -- it's crowded even then -- and don't stay too long so I'm not sure how many of the quilts sell. But I don't remember seeing any from last year when I went this year. Glad you enjoyed the "show."

  4. There are some busy quilters at that shop. Did any come home with you?

    1. Hi, Gypsy Quilter. They are all sample quilts and I don't know if the shop keepers make them or what. I didn't bring any home. There were several that I liked a lot but I'm one of those people who looks at something, likes it, thinks of buying it, then talks myself out of it saying, "I could make that." (When in fact sometimes I can't either because I just don't have the skills or maybe not the supplies.) But they were 50% off.

    1. I thought the same thing, Elaine. I like having photos for reference (even though they're not great photos).

  6. What a nice quilt shop and a great idea for the employees to show off their work. The quilts all look so pretty against the wooden fence.

    1. It's always fun to see the quilts lining the fence when the shop has their sale, Pam. I'm always wowed by the quilts and nearly always forget to look at details, like how they were quilted.

  7. What an amazing display. You get to see the true colours in natural light too. I especially like the applique quilt with gold star cornerstones in the sashing. Lots of lovely inspiration, thank you!

    1. Hi, Allison. I agree about it being an amazing display. I remember the first year I went to the shop's tent sale and saw those quilts on the fence. I was both surprised and amazed. The strange thing is that when I'm faced with such an abundance of quilts I forget to look at the details. At least the photos let me look at the individuals quilts again even if not in detail.

Yes, that little applique quilt with the stars is a handsome one.
