"Stick to a Task . . ."

Yes, I did!  I stuck to it and I finished sewing these 32 blocks together.  Truly, it only took a few hours to finish them.  As unending as the sewing seemed at the time I wrote the last post about them, I knew I wouldn't want to put away the blocks and all the fabric only to have to pull them out later.  So I pushed through.

I do love these blocks.  All stitched and pressed, they look scrappy and fresh.

One of my early ideas for the layout of these blocks was this (though the blocks in real life are lighter and less creamy than these).

The circles in the photo above are cut from fabric but for the blocks I laid out on the floor I cut circles from red paper.  (I didn't want to waste good fabric, you know.)  I don't know yet whether the quilt will get circles or not.

I hope to sew the blocks into a quilt top tomorrow and then let the top rest for 5 or 6 days while my daughter and grands are visiting.  Then I'll deciee about the circles (or something else, or nothing else) next week.

The saying goes,
Stick to a task till it sticks to you.
        Beginners many, finishers few.

Even when I have to push myself to finish something (and maybe especially then) I feel a sense of accomplishment and satisfaction.  Do you, too?

  1. It does feel wonderful to reach a goal especially if the goal is to finish something! I've just sewn up a mug cozy, it was my first attempt and I'm pleased with it, wow it's amazing how fast you can make something when it's so small! I'm really chuffed with it (that's English slang for extremely pleased!)

    1. I would love to see your mug cozy, ES. I think sewing something small that finishes quickly is a great boost to morale and very encouraging. I love the word chuffed! I've been tempted to use it but I think most of the people I know here in the U.S. wouldn't know what it means.

  2. Awesome!! I have enjoyed watching your quilt come together. I just have to make a neutral quilt, as those neutral strings are calling my name!

  3. I love when I can stick to a task, yet it doesn't happen often enough! I really love this quilt, especially with the circles! I cannot wait to see if you do or don't or do something else!

    1. Hi, Jayne. I know what you mean. Do we get sidetracked by the next exciting quilt to make or do we just have so many good and competing ideas. I don't know what it is that I have several things in progress at the same time.

Thanks for your kind words about this quilt. I like the circles a lot but my husband doesn't. I know it shouldn't matter what he does or doesn't like since I'm the creator but he will also see this quilt in our home, so I tend to consider his likes, too.

  4. Honestly, the finish is the low point in the project for me, which I'm sure is completely evident in my blog. :D But, I love the soft pretty colours in your blocks! It's looking good!

    1. Sometimes the finish is the low point, the sad time when I've loved some part of the process or creating some quilt in particular, but there are times when I can't get to the next exciting part until some other step is finished, and that's what was happening with these blocks. Not to mention the repetition/sameness of 32 nearly identical blocks.

Thanks for your kind words about this quilt. It's a very quiet quilt, don't you think? Peaceful. For a nap.

    1. Thanks for the compliments and for the encouragement, Susan. My husband doesn't like the circles.... I tell myself (and he tells me) that I don't have to listen to him and I know I don't, but he'll be living with this quilt, too....

      Thanks for hosting Midweek Makers.

  7. It's looking great! I too faff about, get sidetracked, but then suddenly - occasionally- I do 'stick to task' surprise myself and get something finished!

    1. Oh, Linda, you get more done than lots of people I know. You're always posting some new quilt you're working on or some quilt you've just finished -- and beautiful quilts, too! Thanks for teaching me a new word: faff. I'd never heard nor used the word before but now that I know it I realize how often it describes me! Ha! Thanks for your kind words about the quilt.

  9. I love how this quilt has come together...it really does look fresh and kind of modern with just the right amount of colour. I also love that quote. Hope it's okay to borrow it sometime!

    1. Thank you, Jocelyn. I'm really pleased with the quilt so far. I hope the circles don't "ruin" it.

Yes, you're welcome to use the quote. I tried to track down who said it but was not successful. I saw it attributed to several people but further searches didn't lead me to a source.

  10. I do like these blocks. I'm 50-50 on the circles. The quilt is going to be great at the end.
