A Nisse FInish - December's One Monthly Goal

Maileg-style pixie or nisse
The past few days, a week, even, have been greyer than grey, all clouds and overcast with rain scattered through some days.  Not a ray of sunshine to be seen.  There was no chance of taking a photo of this little nisse outside--it would have required a flash there, too.  You'll have to trust me that she really is very sweet.  And she seems to love her stuffed chicken.

From head to toe she measures 13" and from tip of hat to toes she measures 17".  She hasn't been helpful this year but I attribute that to the fact that she only received her eyes this afternoon.

I've been knitting her a little tubular scarf using a French knitting spool I made.  I think it's a little too large but hope it will shrink in the washer and dryer.  If it doesn't, I'll make another using a smaller tube and fewer pegs.

Finishing this nisse -- sewing her eyes and mouth and making a dress -- was my One Monthly Goal for December.  I'm glad to have finished in time.  Thanks to Patty of Elm Street Quilts for hosting the One Monthly Goal Link-ups every month.  Click here to see others' goals and results.

Covid certainly has made a mess of the health-care system.  Nearly every common ailment that one would normally have gone to a doctor for two years ago now seems to be a symptom of Covid and requires a negative Covid test to see a doctor.  For example, I have allergies and what I believe is a sinus infection but can't see the doctor until at least Wednesday, the day after I take a Covid test and ONLY if the test comes out negative.  In the meantime I have a grueling headache that won't go away.  This, too, shall pass.  (And I hope it passes sooner than later!)

I hope everything in your world is set to rights.

  1. What a strange world where you have to prove you are healthy before you can go see a doctor because you are sick

  2. Chris nailed it! Our world has gone crazy. Your sweet Nisse is adorable, with her very own spool-knitted scarf and stuffed chicken. I remember spool knitting as a child, so much fun. Could you share where you got the pattern for your Nisse? Hope you feel better soon!

    1. Thank you, Pat. I used a knitting spool as a child, too. I don't remember where I saw the idea but I used a tinkertoy connector to make one. It worked great but I never really made anything with the long tubes.

The nisse pattern came from https://www.shabbyartboutique.com/2018/11/make-christmas-pixies.html. I think it also has a link for a simple dress and pants patterns.

I hope you feel better! And get to see the doctor.

I love grey days, so peaceful, so quiet. So undemanding.

    Happy New Year dear friend.

    1. Thank you, Lizzy.  She's fun.  Maybe a lighter, brighter dress for next year....
I love grey days, too, and rainy ones.  Sometimes too many in a row can be a little hard.

I think my New Year will become healthier when I recover from Covid.  Thanks for the good wishes.

  5. So sorry you aren't feeling well. I got a respiratory flu at Thanksgiving. The kind that causes, sore throat, body aches, etc. and it lingered over a month due to secondary infection. What a hassle. I'm finally not coughing anymore. It wasn't Covid because I've had Covid and it was just like a seasonal flu. I hope you can get the help you need. (soon)

    1. Me, too, Robin. I'm so sorry you had a rough Thanksgiving, especially with the flu. A month is a long time to deal with that, too, especially when Christmas is coming. So glad your coughing is over.

  6. I had to Google 'Nisse' to find out what one is - a creature from Scandinavian folklore is the answer I found. I hope that is correct? Your little Nisse is very cute.
I hope you soon receive the medical care you need to recover from your illness. With best wishes to you for 2022.

    1. Yes, Allison, that is correct. This nisse is based on a pattern by Mailag, who calls them pixies, but I think it's generally the same idea, just differently shaped characters. Thank you for including her in your Saturday posts.
      I"m currently recovering from Covid.
Best wishes for 2022 for you, too!
