Finished. I think.
And then I think, does that bird need an eye? Or claws at the ends of its stick-legs? Or a little definition around the wing? Whether or not I add those I'm still calling this a finished block.
This basket was made using a pattern Cheri Payne created and shared on her facebook group, Quilts by Cheri~Friendship Group. She gave us the pattern pieces but did not assign the placement of the pieces. The result is that there are a huge variety of basket blocks, each different than the others, as participants chose how to add a handle; where to place bird, flowers, and berries and whether to make many or few; and chose their own colors and fabrics.
Cheri's style is primitive. I don't know that this particular block I've made looks primitive. It may be a little too self-conscious but considering it's the first time I've tried this style I'm satisfied with it.
Cheri's already posted the second basket. I better get busy!

.
Very pretty! I love each version of this block that I have seen.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Julie. Haven't the baskets been beautiful -- and so individual!
DeleteWhat a sweet little bird. I think maybe I would add an eye and claws but I would class it as finished too.
ReplyDeleteHi, Kate. Thanks! I think I will probably add claws and eye but I'm going to let it rest for now and see what the other blocks look like, and then decide if and how to add those.
DeleteI think you have done a great job, Nancy.
ReplyDeleteAdd the eyes and claws if it will always bother you without them, but it looks great as is, to me. : )
Thanks, Janet. I'm holding off on the eyes and claws until I see what's up with the next baskets. I may add them -- or not, but I may feel sorry for that poor little sightless bird. ;-)
DeleteI think it looks primitive from the fabric choices you made. Love that basket fabric. A sweet block. And thanks for linking to WIPs Be Gone and the giving us that link. Off to check out the other baskets.
ReplyDeleteThank you for your kind comments, Angie. And thanks for hosting WIPs Be Gone!
DeleteI really like your basket. I tried to get my son to join the group on facebook, but he wouldn't do it. LOL I won't do FB. I'm enjoying the baskets, though. I've seen a few here and there. I'm in a basket mood myself. A little black bead for the eye and maybe some wing feathers with one strand of floss, if you must, but I wouldn't put toes on the legs. It wouldn't ever bother me without any of that.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Susan. My daughter signed me up for a facebook account a few years ago and I didn't use it for the longest time. These days I mostly just check Cheri's group and what's happening with family members. It can see how it could become a huge time waster. I'm leaving the bird sightless and balancing on two toes for now. I'll see what happens with the other baskets and then decide what to do.
DeleteI think your wee little bird looks lovely just the way it is! No eyes, claws, or feathers required. Thanks for linking up with TGIFF!
ReplyDeleteThanks for your kind comments about my little bird, Jenn. And thanks for hosting TGIFF.
DeleteThis bird is meant to be a little plain one I think to be prim. But I don't know much about this style either. I do know I love your basket so I might just have to jump in. I've joined the Fb group and enjoy visiting it. Thanks for the inspiration...as always.
ReplyDeleteI've noticed that some of the others in Cheri's group do add details and some don't add details so it must just be individual preference. I hope you join in, Jocelyn, especially because you enjoy handwork! Thanks for your kind encouragement.
