A Stash Roll for Me

A dozen beautiful 1800s reproduction fabrics arrived in my mailbox yesterday.  They are really just too beautiful to use.  I think I'll admire them for a while.

They were sent from TWOthimbles quilt shop but they came from Lori of Humble Quilts.  She recently reached 1000 members on her Humble Quilts facebook page -- isn't that grand?! -- and chose one person who left a comment to receive this bundle.  And it was me!

This collection is called a stash roll and is made of 12 different 6" width-of-fabric strips.  TWOthimbles was selling them when Lori posted about them but after receiving this package I went to their website thinking maybe I should buy another one.  But, alas, they were sold out.  I have the impression that stash rolls are items they occasionally carry.  I'll have to check their website now and then to see if I can catch them in stock.

What's so exciting about these fabrics is that I've never seen them, or any like them, at my local fabric store.  It reminds me of how very limited the local selection is.

Thank you for this great bundle of fabrics, Lori.  I will enjoy them.

  1. Well, aren't you the lucky one?!?
I enlarged the photo and looked closely at the fabrics. I have only seen five of them before. As I have crossed the country in the past and visited quilt shops along the way, I was amazed at the fabrics I saw elsewhere that I had never seen at home. I marvel at how many lines of fabric there must be that I never see.

    1. Oh, absolutely, I'm the lucky one, Janet. I used to say, "I never win anything," because it used to be true, but I can't say that now. Lori was so generous to give this fabric.

Like you, I'm surprised at the variety of prints I see when I look online. I wish there were a store nearby that had a greater selection because I find it hard to buy online. The colors aren't always accurate and I can never tell the hand of the fabric until it arrives. I've noticed that not all fabric even from the same company is of the same quality, density, softness, etc. But knowing me, I would be indecisive in a fabric store with thousands and thousands of bolts and walk out with one or two fat quarters.

    1. It's the best kind of mail, isn't it, Linda? I don't have a quilt in mind for them yet and they may not get used together but I'll enjoy looking at them till they go into quilt blocks.

  4. Ooh, I like these fabrics too Nancy. What a great addition to your stash! Loved reading your post on your last primitive basket block...these are really coming together nicely I think. Will be wonderful to get them together.

    1. They are a great addition, Jocelyn. I have so many pieces of fabric that are not "quilt store quality" fabric that I'm glad to add these and my my collection in that direction.

Thanks for your comment about the basket block. I'm enjoying the process a lot. I think I have to get beyond brown baskets, though. I love brown but I know a variety of colors would add interest. We'll see what I come up with next!

  5. Love the fabric! I just purchased a few stash rolls of batik from Hancocks of Paducah. There are 20 pieces of 6" x wof. I love this new size, so I have more variety to choose from.

    1. Me, too, Holly! Stash rolls are a new size for me and hadn't heard about them till Lori mentioned them. I think it's a great size that's really versatile.

  6. I ordered and received some small pieces of fabric from the Two Thimbles shop. So fun to admire and pet them a bit before cutting them up.

    1. Were they stash rolls you ordered, Karen? I think that's a great size and TwoThimbles's price is great for a stash roll, too. Yes, I have to admire for a while. I don't want to waste those beauties on a quilt that's less than "perfect" for them!

  7. I'm so glad you were the one who won! So ... I happen to have a stash of CW prints, too. Huge. Ginormous. So if you're ever missing a color, let me know! LOL Or I could send you some scraps next time I clear my cutting table!
