A Mist of Green & Other Miscellaneous Photos -- Saturday Snaps

As we whiz by in the car to the grocery store, I see mists of green nearly everywhere I look along the side of the road.  Green that's just barely there but if you miss the mist, the next day there will be small green leaves, it happens that fast!  When I look higher, toward some of the treetops, I see a haze of red, probably from the maples, though I've never tried to identify which trees.  There will be leaves soon.

Driving down this particular street, I always forget about these beautiful lights in the tree until we come round the bend and there they are, glowing brightly.  A fun, almost magical, surprise!  They are hollow bulbs at least a foot in diameter.  The owners kept them lit through February.  I love seeing them.

At a restaurant we frequented there was a light above our table.  I was playing with the shadow and reflection from my water glass one night and saw what looked like a flower or a clover in the bottom of the glass.

Turns out it was an anchor!

This spool was twirling as fast as it could go as I wound the bobbin, but my camera stopped the action.  I love using old cotton thread, but only if it's still strong.  It's smoother than any new thread I've found.  Lavender is a great neutral.

One other little sign of spring.  I took this on March 11 when I went to lunch with two high school friends.  It was the last day before we were encouraged stay inside.  Those daffodils are probably blooming by now.

And this was today.  More rain with thunderstorms thrown in for good measure.  I loved it.  Thank goodness we had sun yesterday or I would have loved it less.

These are some of the last "outside of my house" photos.  (I have a few more, but not many.)  I'll have to start being more observant of the inside of my home if I want to post new photos, at least until this coronavirus thing is over.

I hope you are well and staying safe from covid-19!

    1. Thank you, Julierose.  Some days are just like that:  good to work inside while looking outside through a window.
I hope you're making good progress on your courthouse blocks.

    1. Thank you, Pat.  Oh, you're so right about the blessing of seeing another spring.  There's always something interesting but in the spring that something is especially interesting.

  3. As much as the virus has upset the world as we know it, I hope the forced slowing down will allow us to notice the little blessings in our path. I think you've always been good about that - I love the glimpses of your world you share with us. Stay safe and healthy!

    1. Thank you, Karin.  I think -- and hope -- people, families are learning to take time to be together again, learning the blessings of time with family, and enjoying small blessings.  I also hope that our nation, maybe even the world, comes out the other side of this corona mess better than we were before.

  4. Your photos are wonderful and show that you have such an eye for detail. I've never thought of lavendar thread as a neutral - good idea.

    1. Thank you, Cynthia.  I love having a camera that takes good close-up photos.  There are so many details in the photos that I miss with just glasses.  Lavender is one of those colors I rarely use but I had five or six spools of it and began using it when it wouldn't show.  I was impressed that it practically disappeared, almost like grey does sometimes.

  5. I like your blue and grey too!
Nice to see a bit of your neighbourhood. We are past week 3 of self isolating which has turned more serious. But still no cases in our town. But lots to do inside which I'm sure you are well ready for too.

    1. Thank you, Jocelyn.

I'm so glad to hear that there are not cases of the virus near you.  I hope that remains the case   It's wonderful you have so much property to be outside and still away from others.
