My One Monthly Goal for April, 2016

In this quilt there are 14 whole blocks and the sashing around them that still need hand quilting.  I intend to finish those blocks and sashing during the month of April.

That doesn't mean the quilt will be finished because there will be 20 half-blocks around the perimeter of the quilt -- but they can wait their turn.

This month's goal will simply be a commitment of time and won't require any creative decisions like last month's goal.  With 30 days in the month and 14 blocks to quilt, I should be able to finish one block every two days.  (Let's see.  I think I have a stack of movies waiting in the family room....)

I'm linking this post to OMG (One Monthly Goal):  Plans for April at Red Letter Quilts.  Thanks for hosting, Heidi.

  1. Smart of you to set a goal - that's how things get done, right? Sadly, I just do whatever feels good for the moment and it makes for a very large pile of UFOs! LOL

    1. I'm a lot like you, Gayle. I have plenty of UFOs, too, because I mostly just work along with non-specific goals. But when I really want to get something done, setting a goal and a reasonable deadline help me make good progress.

It looks to me like you get lots done!

  2. Those blocks go together beautifully. Sorry if I'm repeating myself but it looks like an elegant Edwardian tiled floor.

    1. I hadn't thought of the blocks as a tile floor but I can see that. I often see tile floors and imagine quilts. Do you watch "Call the Midwife?" There are a few scenes at Nonnatus House where the camera is positioned high and shows someone walking down a corridor with a tiled floor -- and I always see a quilt.

  3. That's a great way of getting something done! I especially have to give myself goals when I'm trying to get hand quilting done, otherwise I'd never finish anything! Cheers, CW

    1. Hi, Claire. I'm usually lax about setting specific goals and just keep working along, but setting a goal with a deadline gives me a little push to work more diligently. It was frustrating last month (because I set a deadline on a creative decision) but this month the goal will just require time. Thanks for visiting and leaving a comment.

  4. I like how you realistically set a goal for a portion of a quilt. Love watching Net Flix when I am sewing or quilting. Best wishes on finishing your goal!

    1. Thanks, Joanie. If I set small goals along the way -- making a certain number of blocks, cutting and sewing sashing, etc. I don't know what the difference is but small goals along the way makes it feel like progress rather than if I wait until the binding is stitched to say I've finished.

  5. I admire your goal setting. It helps doesn't it?
I really need to get back to that.

    1. Hi, Jennie --

I'm so sorry to be so late responding to your comment! Somehow I lost track of it.

For me setting a goal helps but only if I'm fairly certain I can accomplish it. If it's too large a goal it just results in my feeling like a failure! I usually just keep working ahead on whatever I have going but when these goal-setting link-ups came along I started to push myself a little more.

I hope all is well with you. You must be gardening now?
