Significant Progress & One Monthly Goal Met

At the beginning of August I set the goal to quilt 15 sashing pieces on the Blue and the Gray quilt.  I'm pleased to have quilted 21.  And since I wanted to move out from the center, I had to quilt a few more squares and cornerstones to get to the next sashing rectangles.

You can't really see the progress in the photo below except possibly to look for pins and know I haven't quilted those blocks or sashings.

I'm almost to the edges of the quilt all the way around.  I always think that's a milestone in a quilt--almost done!--until I realize that the edge blocks comprise more than half a quilt.  Still, progress is progress.

I'm linking this post to One Monthly Goal August Finishes Link-up at Elm Street Quilts.  Thanks for hosting, Patty.

    1. Thanks so much, Julierose.  It's one of the few quilts I've made from someone else's pattern, and I love it!

    1. Thank you, Karen.  Yes, there's something about the simple nine-patch blocks combined with the little cross blocks that makes it wonderful.  And the colors, too, of course.

    1. Thank you, Lizzy.  I'm not so sure about the line quilting in the sashing rectangles but at this point I don't think I'll be changing it.  I think it's the first time I've not quilted an overall pattern on a quilt.

  6. I wish you could come over and we, each with out own quilt, would visit and stitch the afternoon away. Progress can be hard to see but I sure love the close-ups of the quilting. Looking great!

  7. It really is mind blowing how the edges really take up a lot of real estate! Looking good.

    1. Thanks, Cynthia.  It IS amazing how the edges have more blocks than a center.  I just counted and there are 12 blocks in the center of this quilt and 18 blocks around the edges.  I'll have to refigure how I define halfway finished when it comes to quilting!

  8. I enjoyed your discussion about how the same two blocks can have different names. I also find modern blocks can be traditional ones but use modern type fabrics which give them a completely different look. I just love this homey looking Blue and Grey Quilt, Nancy. The work will be well worth it.

    1. Thank you, Jocelyn.  The blue and grey look so warm, homey, and comforting to me -- like winter.  It's so true how different blocks can look with modern colors and fabrics.

    1. Thank you, Janet.  I think it will be a warm quilt for winter.  The backing seems a little thicker and the whole quilt seems a little heavier.  Or maybe it's just the colors that make me think so.
