The Last Five Blue and White/Light Blocks

The blocks for this quilt all have square-in-square or square-in-diamond (or vice versa) centers.  I posted 15 blocks two months.  I'm hoping a 4 x 5 block layout will make a nice sized quilt, which means I need 20 blocks.  These are, hopefully, the last five blocks.

The block pattern is Fox Paws but I changed the color arrangement so it may have some other name now.

When it comes right down to it, some blocks are just not worth the time, effort, and fabric.  I feel that way about this one.  This is not a block I would make again.

The patterns for these blocks came from two Judy Hopkins books:  501 Rotary-cut Quilt Blocks and Around the Block with Judy Hopkins.  I love these books because each block pattern is given in five different sizes (but not always the same sizes from pattern to pattern).  She has several more block books.  Sadly, these two are the only ones available through our local library system.

I'm looking forward to laying these out to see how they look, and hope the blues play nicely together.   Sadly, my design floor is currently in use so it will be a while before I can do that.

Ohio has had a long string of grey days, some rainy, and none sunny.  I'm looking forward to seeing the sun on Friday (if the weatherman's prediction is right).

    1. Thank you, Julierose.  I'm so glad I didn't have a deadline for these blocks, with all those pieces in several of them.  Ha!

    1. Thanks for your comment, Grace.  This is my first blue and white/light quilt (because I'm not really a blue person) but I think/hope they'll become a great quilt.

    1. Thank you, Jocelyn.  Several of the blocks are precise, but there are others missing points and corners.  I'm okay with that for this quilt!

  4. What a nice selection of blue blocks! And wonderful piecing. These will make a lovely quilt. One of my early quilting books Was by Judy Hopkins. Something like “It’s Okay if you sit on my Quilt”.

    1. Thank you, Jennie.  I wonder about balance and color arrangement for these blocks.  I guess I'll know after I lay them out together.
I have "It's Okay...."  I love it for the setting options she gives.  She doesn't give cutting sizes, though, so whenever I use those block patterns, I have to figure out the cutting sizes myself.  (Am I lazy, or what?  Haha)  But still, there are blocks in that book that she doesn't include in the others so it's good to have this one, too.

  5. Lovely blocks all!
I've got that 501 Rotary-cut Quilt Blocks book - it's full of dangerous squirrels!

    1. Thank you, Gayle.  LOL.  Yes, that book can be very dangerous!  After having made these 20 blocks I'm trying to to choose a favorite to make more of them!

  6. Nancy, your blocks are utter perfection and they will make a breathtaking quilt! You must have had the patience of Job to stitch that Denali block.

    1. Thank you, Karin.  It's the photography that makes them look perfect!  Haha.  They have plenty of mistakes. If I had had to sew Denali in one day I would agree that I had patience but I think I cut, pinned, and stitched the pieces over at least a week's time, just here and there when I had a few minutes.  Maybe that's what makes it seem like it was a never-ending quilt block!

  7. I doubt I would ever make that Denali block but suspect it may end up being one of your favorites when your quilt is assembled. These are all such great blocks and your stitching is so precise! It is snowing here at the moment so enjoy whatever sunshine you can get!

    1. Thank you, Pat.  I think it's the camera's work that makes the stitching look precise!I don't know about the Denali block.  It will be interesting to see how it looks with the other blocks.  As I was lifting and moving them to take photographs I was surprised at how much heavier it is than the other blocks.  All those seams! We had a little sun today then it turned cloudy.  But no snow.  It's a little early for snow, at least here in Ohio, but I would welcome it on or after November 1!

  8. Beautifully chosen and assembled blue blocks! All those perfect points! Maybe you could lay them out temporarily on your bed, just for the fun of seeing them all? I really love Denali, and also Summer Wind, for its name.

    1. Thank you, Lizzy.  (They're really not perfect.  I think it's just the photography.)
That's a good idea to just lay them out somewhere.  Or maybe I could even put them into a collage in my photo program, just to see.
I think the Summer Winds block has great potential for a one-block quilt, especially if the color placement is chosen carefully.  Denali -- not so much.

  9. Such lovely blocks. I think Denali looks fabulous. It was probably tedious to make but looks well worth the effort.

    1. Thank you, Robin.  Yes, the Denali block came out okay (except for a point or two).  I hope it doesn't try to dominate the other blocks.

  10. Hurray for your last five blocks. They are so pretty. And, I love seeing the names of them. I see what you mean about Denali - although I think it's so beautiful. Some blocks are good to make just once;).

    1. Yes, absolutely, hurray, Cynthia!  I hope I don't decide the quilt needs to be bigger.  If I did, I'd probably do alternate plain blocks or wider sashing.  I agree that it's fun to see the names, especially with real blocks (as opposed to seeing the drawings/patterns in a book).  Yes, I think once was enough for Denali.  I have a box of triangles that I was trying to decide how to use, but I don't think they will go into a Denali block.  Maybe a tree....
