These Baskets of Plenty are my One Monthly Goal for December. Sometimes I don't know how much time I'll have and this month is one of those times. Therefore, I set a simple goal this month. This is exactly what I hope to accomplish:
- Sew horizontal sashing and cornerstones together.
- Sew the sashing strips and rows of blocks together.
- Measure, cut, pin, and sew borders to the right and left sides.
Eventually I'll also need to
- decide on the size of the angel at the top -- head, wings, star, halo/hair.
- decide on the depth of the top and bottom borders.
- decide whether the cornerstones will remain plain or have an applique. If applique, what shape(s)? I've sketched nearly a dozen possibilities.
- decide whether the bottom border will have applique or not....
All in all, I don't think this quilt looks particularly primitive but I'm enjoying making it, nonetheless.
I'm linking this post to December One Monthly Goal at Elm Street Quilts. Thanks for hosting, Patty.

Those last minute completion decisions take as long as the blocks did to make sometimes...I like the idea of an Angel on the top border...nice work on these baskets; I have always liked this one a lot
ReplyDeletestay safe--hugs from afar, Julierose :()
Thank you, Julierose. I have this ongoing discussion with myself about whether the angel at the top is too large and overpowers the blocks. She's not stitched down yet.... And you're so right that after the blocks are made, some of the rest of the decisions take a while (at least for me!).
DeleteI love the stars in the cornerstones. It just adds a little sparkle. The sashing fabric accents the block's frame nicely. This is going to be such a great quilt.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Robin. I think I like the stars best, too, though I'm uncertain whether to stitch just stars or stars on circles. Primitive quilts do not come naturally to me. It's all a fun challenge.
DeleteGrowing pains. Most kids (and quilts) have them! :o))
ReplyDeleteLOL. Well, not exactly pains, Joyful. Just fun little challenges.
DeleteAll the best Nancy. I admire you planning it all out like this. Yes December can be a busy month so a small goal is wise.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Kathryn. I wish everything were all planned out but I can't seem to manage it most of the time. This quilt is coming together step by step, deciding as I go along. A fun challenge -- or, many fun challenges.
DeleteI always enjoy watching your process.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Jennie. I'm glad to hear that because sometimes I wonder if the process posts are overloaded with too much detail. Ah, well.
DeleteI really like what I am seeing here, Nancy! It will work together beautifully and in the end you will have a lovely quilt!
ReplyDeleteThank you for your vote of confidence, Janet. From one day to the next, I like it, then I'm not so sure. Maybe it's the colors.... I hope I can pull it all together.
DeleteYour photos are fine. The important thing is to see what's going on! I can see that in your pictures. This is a goal for if I ever finish the SLOL of Cheri Payne's. I haven't worked on it in 2020 at all. Your Baskets of Plenty look terrific!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Susan. I had to put off SLOL, I just felt so bogged down with it. When I put it away I thought I wouldn't finish it at all, but I've been thinking about it again, so maybe I will. Maybe 2021 will be the year -- for both of us to finish.
DeletePretty blocks. Thanks for linking up with Elm Street Quilts One Monthly Goal and good luck with your project.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Patty. And especially, thanks for hosting One Monthly Goal every month. I know it must take a lot of time to organize it and keep it going. I appreciate it.
