I had an abundance of strings and began sewing the dark and medium ones together. They are not all the same width. My only criteria was not to have strings of the same fabric touching as I sewed lengthwise.
The blocks are 6" square and I used 2" squares on the corners, then sewed them diagonally. The finished quilt measures 64 3/4" x 85 3/4".
The batting is Soft n Crafty 80% cotton / 20% polyester. It hand quilts easily and puffs up nicely after a turn in the washer and a spin in the dryer.

This is a delightful and cheerful quilt! I love the way you alternated vertical and horizontal blocks and the cornerstones really highlight the whole quilt.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Quilting Babcia. I appreciate your kind thoughts about this quilt.
DeleteI love this quilt - very glad you are giving it an airing in the Bloggers Quilt Festival.
ReplyDeleteIt seems like I just posted about this quilt not long ago, doesn't it, Allison. If I finished more quilts in a year I would try to save one or two finishes to post for the festival, but when I finish just one or two in a year....
DeleteThanks for your kind thoughts about this quilt.
Another favorite! I made a strip quilt, but it's still only a top and my strip box still isn't empty. Seeing yours again inspires me to work on emptying it. This is the scrappy quilt at it's best...it's perfectly lovely! I would make naps a daily event if this was in my home.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your kind comments about this quilt, Karin. I'm convinced strips and strings breed when I have my back turned. I used a lot for this quilt but I still have plenty, too. Unfortunately, the ones I have now don't seem to have gathered themselves into any cohesive color range for a quilt -- unless I go really scrappy with lights, darks, and all the colors of the rainbow. I'll look forward to seeing your quilt, Karin.
DeleteNice looking design that is beautifully finished, too. You've got my vote!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Vic. Are you entering a quilt? (Or maybe you already entered?) You've made some beautiful ones!
DeleteWhat great choices for your entries. Your Red Wings and Stars is so striking and Dark Strings is wonderful too. Love the way you use your scraps and so skillfully put them together.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Jocelyn. Your are too kind with your praise of these quilts.
DeleteThis is such a nice use of strings. Love the sprinkle of diamonds across the surface formed by the flipped corner squares.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Janet. I have so many strings but haven't seen too many patterns for strings that I really like -- or at least like enough to make. Maybe I should think about using some of them for small quilts....
DeleteI love this layout.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Eclectic Abeula.
DeleteOh Nancy, I love that quilt! It's something I'm going to have to consider when I finish my Uncle Donald quilt. Thanks for sharing it here.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Susan. It's such an easy quilt to make, too.
DeleteWhat a stunning string quilt! Visually appetizing!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Kevin.
DeleteIt's a lovely quilt - it must have been a lot of work and it has paid off!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Catherine. I think it was somewhat time-consuming but perhaps no more than any other quilt. I think I grew tired of making the string blocks and decided to put that slightly wider than usual border around them. We like it and it's warm and comfortable.

Delightful quilt! I'll be pinning this one to my "quilts I want to make" Pinterest board!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Linda. If/when you make one I'd love to see photos of it. This quilt, with a density of colored fabrics (without or with little white/light) would look so different depending on the fabrics and color range the quilter uses. Thanks for visiting and leaving a comment.
DeleteYour work is so beautiful, Nancy. I wish you all the best in the festival!
