One Monthly Goal Finish, and Wind and Rain

My One Monthly Goal for September was to finish appliqueing this basket block (I'm so happy I finished it) and
to prepare the edges of these two baskets for applique onto their backgrounds.  I'm glad those are done, too.
I had a little trouble with the basket on the right and below.  The bias on the handle didn't want to lay flat.  I had thread left over after folding under and stitching the edges, which I thought I might need if I had to adjust the handles, so I loosely sewed it to the basket.  If I need it I'll have it, if I don't it won't be much of a problem to cut it away.
I don't know about setting a goal for October.  The second knee replacement is coming up the third week of October.  Would I be able to post a finish even if I had one?  And this coming week we're going to the ocean.  Hooray!  We were uncertain whether we'd be able to go.  I'm thrilled that we can!

We've had wind and rain today.  I opened some of the windows that were protected enough not to let the rain in.  I love how the wind billowed this curtain.  The wind was so cool and refreshing.
And this is a view of the rain through our driveway side screen door.  Oh, and you can see our golden honey locust leaves on the ground.  I love them but they are a mess when it rains because they stick to our shoes like crazy.
It's been the greyest day we've had for ages.  It's been beautiful and I love it!

Edited to add:  The power went out about 20 minutes after I published this post.  Then I learned that my daughter, in central Kentucky, hasn't has power all day and was told not to expect it to come on until 11 p.m. tomorrow.  I've been in a bubble today and didn't realize how rotten the weather's been for people in other areas.  My thoughts and prayers are with them--or you if you're in an area that's having wind, rain, flooding, etc.

  1. Glad you were able to finish your "One Monthly Goal" and your finished baskets looks adorable. This quilt is going to be so sweet when it all comes together. It's good to hear you're getting rain, there's nothing quite like a refreshing rain storm. I'm sorry it's wreaking havoc on other parts of the country but I'm glad it's a blessing for others like you. I'm finally getting my 'Flowers' quilt on the frames. I spent quite a bit of time yesterday measuring and sewing the backing and on my knees on the floor pin basting. I finally had to stop with one quadrant undone because my knees had had enough. It will be easy enough to finish it up today. I love this quilt, it bring back so many memories of stitching it through the early days of the pandemic. Look forward to hearing about your trip to the beach.

    1. Thanks for your sweet comments, Robin. I hope I can figure out layout and sashing so the baskets do make a really sweet quilt.
I'm eager to see photos of your Flowers quilt and how you decided to quilt it. With the pandemic in the rear view mirror, I'd forgotten Flowers was from that time period.
I agree, that floor work is hard on knees. I finally had to give up and was just bending at the waist to arrange blocks, layer, pin-baste, etc. The doctor tells me I'll be able to kneel again but it won't feel the same. I'm curious about that.

  2. Your Baskets are so cute! And like you I love a grey windy day now and then.
Maybe your one goal can be to get thru the surgery and recuperate? Or if you do wet a goal for sewing---it would be ok to post about it at aleter time. Whatever you find most encouraging is what's best.

Hope your daughter--and you!--and all who are affected by thehurrincane are safe now. If power is out, this is a good time of year, not too hot or too cold.

    love

    1. Thank you, Lizzy. You are such a champion of these baskets and I appreciate it.
In the end, I didn't set a goal for October. I am stitching a little (a very little) on one of the baskets, though.
Our daughter and her family weathered the storm without too much damage, so that's good. I think hurricane season is almost over now.

  3. Your baskets are cute!!!! I'm having my second knee joint replacement surgery tomorrow! I know how you feel about making quilting goals! I'm planning to catch up documenting some projects. I hope your surgery goes well and that I wish you a speedy recovery!--TerryK@OnGoingProjects

    1. Hi, TerryK@OnGoingProjects. I hope your knee replacement went well and that your recovery is going even better. They tell me that each knee can be different so I hope this second one was easier for you than the first one.
Thank you for the good wishes for my surgery. Recovery is slow but (for now) not quite as painful as last time.

  4. A very cute floral basket finish, Nancy!
I love stormy days (that don't get out of control), and the lack of them lately just makes them more enjoyable to me.
So many people struggling with the powerful storms, I hope your daughter's situation was resolved at least as soon as they said it would be!

    1. Thank you for your comment about the basket, Janet.
Our daughter's electricity didn't come on until after church on Sunday morning, so it was out a lot longer than they estimated. But they survived. It's a sad fact that situations like that me us appreciate the things we take for granted even more.

  5. I was so glad to get a few stitches in, too. This month, in October, I think I've stitched even fewer, but it's still more than before.
I'll post about the trip to the ocean tonight or tomorrow. It was wonderful!
Thanks for visiting and leaving a comment, Anne-Marie.
